Items you need to specify

Some items need to be specified on the schedule of insurance to ensure the customer is fully protected.

Under the contents section of the policy (for cover in the home) any individual item with a value of more than £5,000 needs to be specified. Our claims team may require to see proof of purchase for any item with a value of more than £500.

Under the personal belongings section of the policy (for cover away from the home) all valuables need to be specified if they have a value of more than £1,500. For any individual item to be fully insured, the total amount of personal belongings cover must be equal to, or more than, the value of that item.

Valuables are defined as stamp, coin or medal collections, antiques, collectables, pictures, other works of art, items of gold, silver or other precious metals, jewellery, watches and furs.

The maximum amount of cover for valuables is 20% of the sum insured (which is £8,000 on the standard scheme and £12,000 on the extended scheme).  If the customer requires more cover we can arrange for Sterling Insurance to provide an individual quotation, for more information click here
